Thoughts From The Tiki Hut

Hubby and I figured out that it has been a long long long time since just the two of us went away together. Usually when we leave home it is for a purpose, we are visiting one of our older children or they are with us.
This time it was just us and we have enjoyed this special time.
What makes it even more wonderful is that we know our dear children are waiting for us at home!

We have had time to reflect on how God has steered our lives and how very present He has been.
I am thankful that we can share our love for the Lord.
It has been the basis of most of our conversations
(okay- except when we strayed and talked about buying a place right here and right now. That, we knew wasn't God's perfect timing but our desires ;-)

We have talked about desiring more prayers and fasting in our lives. Taking more issues, concerns and decisions to HIM.
About accepting his gifts of peace and love.
The world was beginning to take a hold of me. I could feel myself straying from his peace and instead accepting the craziness that this world has to offer as the norm.

I don't want to be in control and I don't want to let the world control me.
Instead I desire HIM to control my destiny and my job is to love HIM, serve HIM and rest in HIS peace.
To trust HIM as my guide in this world and faithfully know HE will never leave me.

My own plans were destroying this beautiful time and season. I was praying and praying for the Lord to come in and help me.
Well He has and for that I am so thankful!
I do not want to return home and fall back into "the stress".
I pray to return home and bring what I have learned back to our family.

I am now reading the book "GIFTS of GRACE" by Lone Jensen.
It is a gathering of personal encounters with the Virgin Mary.
I have seen so many miracles in my short life. I believe in God's presence in this world. I believe He can move mountains, I have seen it done.
Prayers and fasting speak to our Lord.
Praying to others that have gone before us to petition for us is important.
The Virgin Mary is for everyone not just Catholics.
She is the Divine Mother.
I feel a deep need to be close to her.
I have a need to gain her motherly wisdom and for her help as I mother many very special children.
Being a mother is my greatest joy but I can always find room for improvement.
I do not worship the Virgin Mary - I worship only the one true GOD and thank HIM for sending his only Son so that we may have eternal life through HIM.
BUT- I am respectful and reverent to the Virgin Mary and I do desire her in my life as the Divine Mother of Jesus.

Hubby and I have been able to have (start and actually finish- which if your a parent you will appreciate) wonderful conversations on our faith, our love for the Lord, the path that he has directed us on and the path he has set for us in the future.
We both feel a need to pray over the last part of that sentence.
WHERE DOES GOD WANT US?
that doesn't mean we have to move to follow him. What I mean where does he want us to put our energy, our God given talents, our prayers, future donations, etc.
To me that is a mystery?

We have heard his call to adopt and it is and has been an amazing journey.
In fact it fit completely within how we would have chosen to serve him- it is such a BLESSING!
We don't know if that part is done or not?
We do know it will come to an end because at some point "rules" will no longer allow us to adopt.
Already the door has closed to adopting from most countries.

So Lord here we are-
What do you desire from us?

Time Away!

Hubby and I are on a little vacation!
Just the two of us!
It is such a treat to spend time together!

The view out our window!

It just so happens to be snowing at home!
Last we heard they had 8 inches!
I am sure the children are loving it!

We have been taking long walks on the beach and enjoying conversation together!

I even started and finished a book!
"Proof of Heaven"- it was very good and I do recommend it!
Hubby is reading "Jesus of Nazareth" by Pope Benedict. An awesome book but complex.

Despite the partial overcast the sun peeked out as it set!
What a treat!

My lil old camera took all these pics and it was just seconds apart.
They all look so different.

There is something so glorious about a sunset over the ocean (or gulf)!

Thank you Jesus for this special time together!

Praising God!

The next day was sunny! More R and R and more walks!

Another sunset where God marveled us again!

Once home we will celebrate Christmas and prep for China (hopefully we will be going in mid January)!

Big Shoes to Fill!

Little Luke's heels are weak and collapsing. So we needed to get him special orthotics to support his heels and help them to get stronger.

The other children joined us at the appt.

Sarah noticed these extra extra large shoes at the Dr's office!

They are size 22!
Uffda!

Shaq wears size 23...
Whoa!

Luke will wear these for about one year.
He has indoor and outdoor shoes he needs to wear with them.

So far the adjustment has been easy!

They are kinda cute!
Hope they help!

He's HOME!

We are so HAPPY!
Andrew is back home with Katie!
(Not at our house BUT at their house!)

He was deployed for 3 months and now he's BACK!
We are so thankful he is safe and they will be spending Christmas together!

Zero Waste Home Essential: Metal Scrubby

A little comment on the blog related to butter wrappers confirmed one of my mottos last week. "There is no such thing as TMI", I like to say. Overall, it is the details that we cover and share on this blog that define the Zero Waste lifestyle. Every bit of information, no matter how trivial, can help someone's Zero Waste journey. In a new series called: A Zero Waste Home Essential, I will be occasionally sharing with you the little things that I have found to be essential to my Zero Waste.

Today, I am sharing one of my favorite tools:

No matter how trivial it may seem, a stainless steel scrubby is essential to my cleaning routine!

It has allowed me to clean my stove's toughest messes effortlessly (above, after canning tomato sauce), and without any cleaning product at all. I simply soak the stain in water and scrub. Over the years, it has saved us a great deal of money: I no longer need to buy specialty (often toxic) stove cleaners and (short-lived) green scrubbies. I have had the same scrubby for three and a half years. Since stainless steel is a ferrous metal, I could recycle it as scrap metal through my curb recycling...that's if it ever decides to fall apart!

Our Oldest Adoption

Sometimes I question older child adoption ?

I wondered if our Mia was part of... the scandal?

Before Mia,
our oldest adoption was at 8 yrs old- Sarah and Ellie.
Emma was 10, however she was profoundly cognitively disabled,
it was a different situation than most adoptions.
I do plan to post an update on Emma, soon.

So I asked our children what they think?

Are they happy to be home OR do they miss China and everything about it?

And there is...

NO DOUBT...

They are so thankful to...
BE HOME!

They do not remember their family from while they were in China.

Actually, I sometimes wonder if Emma does?
I get mixed messages from her regarding her memories.
Whatever memories she may have...
they are NOT happy memories.

BUT
one thing is for certain...
NOT
ONE,

of our children wishes they were back in their native country.

They
WANT
to be home!

HERE
with US!

And, I am so thankful for that!

Mia has many friends that are home now.
I am guessing she is getting ready for the transition.

ALL,
of them are HAPPY to be HOME
and to have a FAMILY!

Our children at home, want parents, they want love, they want to learn, to experience life, to love others, to know about Jesus, to love GOD and pray freely.

I am praying that Mia will desire this also.

She will be our oldest adoption.
She is currently 11 yrs old.
We hope to make her 10 yrs old
BUT
have learned from other families.
that it will be very difficult...

Praying for her adjustment and for the adjustment of our other new daughters, as well as those at home!

We have never adopted a child Mia's age (11 yrs old) or older, so our experience is limited.

The challenges are great- what ever the age of the child and even greater when they are older.
Our God is faithful and will not leave us in times of need.
In fact,
THAT is when he is closest to us.

Praying for all the adjustments as our time grows NEAR!

A Dinner out!

Thank you for your Christmas encouragement and ideas!! Hubby and I went shopping today and got most of it done! Praise the Lord! NOW, we can focus on the best part!
Getting our heart ready for the birth of our Savior, Jesus and celebrating this joyful time!

One more thing to ask- a few more ideas for a 12 yr old girl who is at about a 9-10 yr old level and who has conservative parents (that would be us), any ideas!

It is so wonderful to see picture of our three new girls on the blog, I almost don't even want to post again so they can just stay there!

BUT, life continues and soon they will be on the blog a lot!
We cannot wait for you to be
HOME SWEET HOME!

Article 5 will be picked up on December 14th, YAY!

So next is our wait for TA!!

Whoa Nellie! Things are happening!
FAST!

Praying that we get our TA asap so we can go to China and get home before CNY!

After Church today we went to our favorite Chinese restaurant for dinner!
Luke, Anna, Abby, Emma and... Hubby could not do chopsticks.

We promised we would have chopstick lessons at home soon!

Hubby is in training or he will be unknowingly on a diet once we go to China!

It seems that we are quite the spectacle now that we have a crew of 8 children.
The people that own the restaurant were wondering why...
"we were only a family of ten tonight"!

We explained that the big kids had other plans (okay, maybe we didn't invite them, whatever ;-)
and our three new children are still in China.

Our waiter was so nice.
He knows exactly what we will be ordering- our favorites!
Of course the table next to us asked him about us.
We heard him saying that the children are adopted and that we are going back to China to bring three more children home.
and then they told the next table...
and the next...
and the next...

The table next to us started chatting with us.
They were very nice.
We did tell them that by February we will be needing their table too!
Because we will not be able to "all" fit on our table!

I starting taking pics AFTER EVERYONE left!
The children were amazingly well behaved!

I know this pick does NOT look like it BUT they really were...

One more time!
THIS happened after everyone was GONE!

Three families came up to us and said "you have a beautiful family and the children are so well behaved"!

They said all this before...
THIS...
ahem, referring to the pic below and pics above!

I did mention to hubby...
I just want a quiet peaceful dinner, no extra attention...

And he responded,
My dearest darling wife, we have adopted 8 children from China... that is not possible!

Okay, Okay, Okay!
I get it!
